At least six former Minutemen who previously left the team for one reason or another under Charley Molnar are back playing under Whipple:

•DL Al Leneus
•DL Leo Krizanovic
•LB Vondell Langston
•WR Marken Michel
•WR Iric Harris
•LB Mike McKenna
The big name here is Michel, who returns to the team after sitting out the 2013 season. The circumstances surrounding his departure after the 2012 season are cloudy, but now that he's back, he should provide UMass with another formidable receiving threat

Harris, Langston, Krizanovic and Leneus were all confirmed in early November to have left the team. Leneus, who moved from defensive tackle to guard when injuries depleted the offensive line in 2012, is back working on defense.

the Minutemen announced in a press release earlier in the day that, among others, quarterback Austin Whipple and running back Drew Harris were added to the roster. The former will be forced to sit out the 2014 season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules while the latter will (possibly) be eligible to play immediately.

Whipple is the son of first-year head coach Mark Whipple. His brother, Spencer, serves as UMass’ tight ends coach.

In mid-June it was announced that Whipple was one of four players departing the Penn State football program. He spent the 2013 season as a walk-on who ended up taking a redshirt. He’ll have three years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2015.

It’s Harris, though, who could ultimately make the biggest impact.

The four-star recruit was rated as the No. 22 running back in the country in the Class of 2012. With offers from, among others, Arizona State, Arkansas, Georgia, Miami, Michigan State, Penn State, South Carolina and West Virginia, the Pennsylvania native signed with Virginia Tech. Unfortunately, Harris failed to qualify academically and spent 2012 and 2013 at a prep school and a New York JUCO, respectively.

Two Minutemen will not be making the transition to the Mark Whipple era.

According to a report by the Maroon Musket late Tuesday night, senior defensive back Ed Saint-Vil and sophomore wide receiver E.J. Burston are no longer with the program. Indeed, they are no longer listed online on the official UMass roster.

Already graduated, Saint-Vil has retired from football. Burston's motives are unclear.

Todd Stafford moves to TE. At 6-7 250 he has an NFL-sized body, so he has the potential to make an impact as a TE

According to MassLive.com, head coach Mark Whipple confirmed that Drew Harris is no longer a part of the Minutemen football program. There was no specific reason given for the abrupt divorce, although the head coach didn’t appear too happy when discussing it.
