Re: California 2014 news
Less than a month after leaving the ACC, James Looney is officially trading in the East Coast for the West Coast.
In a press release sent out Wednesday evening, Cal confirmed that the defensive lineman has decided to transfer into the Bears’ football program. It was first reported April 22 that Looney had decided to take his leave of the Demon Deacons, and it was speculated at the time that the lineman may be interested in transferring to the other side of the country.

Re: California 2014 news
We all feared this back in March, but now we can live in a world where those fears have been actualized -- yay -- sophomore defensive tackle Jacobi Hunter will not be returning to the team, if the information per his own Twitter profile is to be believed. Instead, Hunter will be at Sam Houston State with a different Bears team: that is to say, the Bearkats, instead.

Re: California 2014 news
Maximo Espitia was listed as a starting outside linebacker on the spring depth chart, but he appears to have made a Bluthian mistake and has been suspended for the entire 2014 season. Sonny Dykes says it's "pretty serious".
Damariay Drew (who saw plenty of time at safety last season) is still facing investigation for assault charges and has legal issues to work out, so he remains suspended indefinitely.
Christian Okafor (who started much of last season as an offensive tackle) has taken a medical hardship waiver and will keep his scholarship. His scholarship will not count against the 85 scholarships set aside for Cal players.
James Grisom had some nice moments like this one last year...
But he will not be returning this year. Vachel Samuels is also not coming back.

Re: California 2014 news
Last year around this time, Cal’s Nathan Broussard went down with a torn ACL that cost him the entire 2013 season.
Unfortunately for the linebacker, it’s lather, tear, repeat yet again.
Broussard, head coach Sonny Dykes confirmed, suffered yet another torn ACL recently. The San Jose Mercury News wrote that “Broussard was diagnosed with a torn ACL to his left knee after twice ‘tweaking’ it in recent days.”
Both of the ACL tears have been in his left knee. As a result of the second injury, obviously, Broussard will miss the entire 2014 season.
In addition to Burroughs, safety Quentin Tartabull has been lost for the season with a torn ACL suffered Wednesday. The freshman had been expected to be a contributor as a backup.
