West Virginia 2014 news

Third time’s a charm? Former Mich., Pitt DB headed to WVU

If at first you don’t succeed, try again. And then, in Cullen Christian‘s world, try again, if necessary.

The defensive back confirmed to both wvillustrated.com and Scout.com earlier this week that he has decided to transfer into the West Virginia football program. Because Christian will have already received his bachelor’s degree and will be pursing a Masters not offered at (one of) his former schools, the cornerback will be eligible to play immediately in 2014.

FCS All-American tweets he’s transferring to WVU

A little over two months before the start of summer camp, West Virginia has landed what could, literally and figuratively, be a huge piece to its defensive line puzzle.

In a tweet posted to his Twitter account Friday morning, Shaquille Riddick revealed that he will be climbing up the collegiate football ladder and finishing out his playing career at West Virginia. The school has yet to announce the addition to its roster, although it appears the defensive lineman is/was in the process of filling out all of the proper paperwork.

Because Riddick is transferring from FCS-level Gardner-Webb (NC) and is a graduate, he will be eligible to play immediately for the Mountaineers in 2014.

Following a 2013 season in which he posted 19 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks and 17 quarterback pressures, the 6-7, 262-pound Riddick was named as an Associated Press All-American at defensive end. He finished second in the country in tackles for loss per game.

A month and a half after leaving Vanderbilt a second time, Darien Bryant has found a new place to ply his football wares.

While the school has yet to announce his addition, a source with knowledge of the situation tells CFT that Bryant has decided to transfer into the West Virginia football program. The tight end-turned-defensive lineman-turned-(?) will join the Mountaineers initially as a walk-on.

Three and a half weeks after he was initially suspended by West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen for a “violation of team rules”, sophomore cornerback Daryl Worley will return to the team.
