Arkansas State officials have confirmed to the Associated Press that Red Wolves defensive lineman Markel Owens died Wednesday night. The Jackson (Tenn.) Sun reported that Owens was one of two men shot and killed at their residence at around 9:30 local time. A third, unnamed victim, a woman, was injured in the shooting.

With the start of summer camp just around the corner, the middle of Arkansas State’s offensive line has suffered a significant blow.

Head coach Blake Anderson announced in a press release Monday after that center Bryce Giddens has decided to end his playing career due to injuries. The injuries were only described as being incurred in the past and recently.

For the second time in a little more than a year, defensive end Chase Robison is relocating to play football. The Auburn backup will hope to play a more meaningful role at his new school, Arkansas State.

According to information from A-State Nation, via Twitter, Robison will enroll and join the football program. Because he sat out the 2013 season after transferring to Auburn from Texas Tech, he should be eligible to play right away this season for the Sun Belt Conference contender.
