Late last week it was reported that quarterback Cody Sokol would be landing at Louisiana Tech after deciding to transfer from Iowa late last month. Four days later, the Hawkeyes have gotten around to confirming the fact that the player is departing.

IU announced via a press release Monday afternoon that Sokol (pictured, left) has decided to leave the Hawkeyes. Head coach Kirk Ferentz even confirmed the destination in a statement, saying “we wish him the best at Louisiana Tech.”

On Louisiana Tech’s post-spring depth chart, Scotty Young was listed as the No. 2 quarterback behind starter Ryan Higgins. Less than two weeks later, the Bulldogs will officially have a new backup quarterback when summer camp commences in August.

In a surprising press release sent out Tuesday evening, Young announced in a statement that he has decided to bring his playing career to an end. Young, who would’ve been a redshirt senior in 2014 will graduate in the coming months and has decided it’s time to begin the next phase his life.

In announcing a total of five players to its football roster, Louisiana Tech announced that defensive end Houston Bates and quarterback Cody Sokol have signed financial aid agreements and will play for the Bulldogs in 2014. Both players are graduates and will have one year of eligibility remaining.

An LSU stick-and-baller did it earlier this month. Now, another FBS football program in that state will be the beneficiary of a similar move.

Earlier this week, Louisiana Tech announced that Taylor Burch (no relation) has joined the football program. And, actually, it’s rejoined; in 2010 and 2011, Burch was on the football Bulldogs roster.

Burch left the football team following the 2011 season and concentrated on baseball full-time the past two seasons after splitting his time between the sports. His baseball eligibility is expired, and he will be entering his final season of football eligibility.

While Burch served as the holder on field goal and extra point attempts, he will enter summer camp listed as a quarterback.

Less than two weeks before the start of a new season, Louisiana Tech officially learned that one of its most productive offensive players in 2013 will be available in 2014 as well.

The Bulldogs announced in a release Monday that Sterling Griffin has been granted a sixth season of eligibility by the NCAA. The wide receiver missed the entire season in 2010 (ankle) and all but the first two games in 2012 (ACL) with injuries, so the decision was a no-brainer for The Association.

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs were plagued by poor quarterback play during Skip Holtz‘s first season as head coach. Holtz will now lean on a transfer from the Big Ten Conference to turn the offense around during his season season.

Iowa transfer Cody Sokol was named the Bulldogs’ starting quarterback Monday
