Cincinnati quarterback Munchie Legaux has received an extra year of eligibility from the NCAA after missing most of last season because of a gruesome knee injury.

The American Athletic Conference announced Wednesday that hardship waivers had been approved by the NCAA for Legaux and Bearcats receiver Shaq Washington.

Legaux will have one more year of eligibility. Washington, who missed most of the 2011 season with an injury, has two years left.

After spending the past couple of years up north, Bennie Coney could be headed south back toward more familiar territory.

Head coach Tommy Tuberville confirmed Wednesday that the quarterback has decided to take his leave of the Cincinnati football program. The player himself confirmed via Twitter the reason behind his decision to transfer: the opportunity for more playing time.

The playing careers for a pair of Cincinnati players have come to an end as a result of a car crash last September. Wide receivers Mark Barr and Javon Harrison will no longer play football due to injuries suffered in a tragic auto accident that claimed the life of offensive lineman Ben Flick.

In addition to Barr and Harrison, Cincinnati head coach Tommy Tuberville confirmed to Tom Groeschen of the Cincinnati Enquirer that safety Marcus Foster and defensive back Drake Burns will also no longer be able to play football. All four players will remain on scholarship

There had been rumors of Arkansas defensive back Chris Murphy contemplating a transfer for some time, but now it appears to have become a reality. Murphy will enroll at Cincinnati and join the team during fall camp, according to a report by Jeremy Fowler of CBSSports.com.

It remains to be seen if Murphy will be eligible to play this fall. Standard NCAA transfer rules require a player moving from one FBS program to another to sit out a season before being ruled eligible to play again. Although Murphy enrolled at Arkansas in the spring and has yet to play a game, it is possible he will have to follow the same transfer rules. Regardless of what happens with his eligibility for the 2014 season, this is a nice addition for Cincinnati looking into the future.

As some expected to be the case, Gunner Kiel is embracing life as starting quarterback for the upcoming 2014 season at Cincinnati. Kiel will replace Munchie Legaux under center, although Legaux will be the team’s top back-up. For Kiel, the chance to finally be the starting quarterback is not something that will be taken lightly.
