USC quarterback Max Wittek has decided to skip spring practice, graduate and then transfer to another school to play his final two seasons, he told the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday.

Because he will have his undergraduate degree, the redshirt sophomore will be able to play immediately at an FBS school under the NCAA’s graduate transfer rule.

Steve Sarkisian did what’s long been expected and officially tapped the incumbent, Cody Kessler, as USC’s starting quarterback.

Shortly after the end of spring practice and prior to the start of summer workouts, USC’s depth at the tailback position has taken a slight hit.

The Trojans confirmed via Twitter Wednesday afternoon that running back Ty Isaac has decided to transfer out of the Trojans football program and continue his collegiate playing career elsewhere. The stated reason behind the transfer is the player’s desire to play closer to his home state of Illinois, although a wealth of talent at the position certainly didn’t help.

According to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, it’s as simple as this: Wittek will not graduate from USC this month as expected and will instead receive his diploma this coming December, meaning he would not be granted immediate eligibility at the FBS level as a grad transfer for the 2014 season.

The depth on USC’s defensive line took a blow on Tuesday. Kenny Bigelow, a redshirt freshman expected to compete for a starting job on the defensive line, suffered a torn ACL in his right knee. The injury will sideline Bigelow for the entire 2014 season.

The injury was reported by USC via Twitter Tuesday afternoon. The injury was suffered during voluntary player workouts.

Redshirt senior CB Anthony Brown, who was limited to just two games of action last season, decided that he wanted to switch back to his natural position of running back for his final season at the University of Southern California.

head coach Steve Sarkisian announced Monday night that Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick has been declared academically ineligible. As a result, Cope-Fitzpatrick will not play at all this upcoming season.
