Teams changing conferences
Just curious what others on the forum think about all the movement of teams into different conferences recently. Yes I understand that money drives this rather than tradition, but it is making the sport I enjoy worse in my view. Lost are rivalries, geographic matchups, history of prior games against a particular team, recruiting, etc.
Log in today to ESPN, and all the headlines are just teams moving conferences. Very frustrating, especially in certain instances like SDSU joining the Big East (wish with the recent Big East movement that they would grovel back to the Mountain West).

Re: Teams changing conferences
Yeah it sucks....but mega conferences for better or worse, is what College Football seems to moving towards....so teams have to join a Bigger Conference or get left behind....it's always about money isn't it? Hopefully when all this moving and shaking settles down...they can rekindle old rivalries and the like....but the Conference movement seems to be just beginning..
Re: Teams changing conferences
I heard that SDSU, TCU and Boise are thinking about going back to the MW.
I agree with luv, they should just put the big boys in one division, and the rest in another (call the big boys D1 and the second tier teams in the MW Sun Belt CUSA etc D2). I think it would be nice to see a D2 championship in this format.
Second solution=go back to the old conferences (Big 8 the old WAC, Pac 10, SWAC) so we can get the rivalries back in order. I want to see OU v Neb, A&M v UT every year. I loved the days where winning the conference was the ONLY goal, as opposed to today where trying to position yourself for a BCS title run is the primary objective. I hate the BCS system, but I would hate a play-off even more. Go back to conference bowl tie-ins and be done with it.

Agreed, tough losing rivalries like Texas and A&M.
Boise St and SDSU released statements that they are staying with the Big East unfortunately.
Hard to comprehend that the WAC is being dissolved after years of great matchups and games. Sounds like the Sun Belt is headed that way as well.

I don't like all the movement myself. Not everything needs to go the "corporate America" route. I think the schools get enough money via tuition (especially California schools). I do agree with a playoff format to some degree because the BCS is crap in my book. The top four teams just isn't enough. I just wished that the format included all of the conference winners and the top eight to ten teams. You could easily hash all of it out through December and January like normal with something similar to the basketball bracket. You have to give all the conference champs a shot to make a name for themselves as well.

Having SDSU in the Big East is just ridiculous. Keep it regional to some degree!

Yes...we need a playoff...every conference Winner automatically goes in and the next best whatever teams are filled in.
