Auburn LB ends up at JUCO

In early April, it was reported that Jessel Curry was no longer a member of the Auburn football program due to personal issues.

At the time, head coach Gene Chizik denied the reports and maintained that the linebacker was still a part of the Tigers team. Fast-forward nearly two months, however, and that’s reportedly no longer the case.

According to Scout.com by way of the Opelika-Auburn News, Curry’s current plans consist of enrolling in a California community college — Grossmont College in El Cajon, Calif. — this summer. Obviously, that would rule the LB out of being available for Auburn’s 2011 season.

Auburn picks up RB transfer Blakely

Upon deciding to leave the Florida football program earlier this month, one of the stipulations of Mike Blakely obtaining a release from his UF scholarship was that he could not transfer to another SEC school, as well as Miami or Florida State.

Apparently, the conference stipulation has been tweaked. Or Blakely’s going to pay his own tuition freight in 2011.

Regardless, Rivals.com‘s Auburn-specific website is reporting that the running back has enrolled at the university and will play for the defending national champions after sitting out this season. After satisfying NCAA transfer rules, Blakely will have four years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2012.

[b]Auburn picks up another RB from SEC school[/b]

Earlier this month, it was reported that Corey Grant had decided to leave the Alabama football program.

As it turns out, the running back will not even have to leave the state to continue his football career.

According to AuburnSports.com, Grant has decided to take his talents about 200 miles or so southeast of Tuscaloosa and play for instate rival Auburn. And, apparently, Alabama was the right place/wrong time thing for the former four-star back.

Auburn transfer FB eligible in 2012

former Illinois fullback Jay Prosch’s transfer to Auburn won’t result in a year on the bench.

Auburn announced today that Prosch received a hardship waiver from the NCAA that will allow him to play immediately. Under normal transfer rules, an athlete transferring between Division 1-A programs must sit out a season.

Auburn loses DB

Multiple media outlets are reporting that cornerback Jonathan Rose and Auburn have decided to go in different directions. Or, as al.com put it…

Coach Gene Chizik informed Rose’s high school coach, Keith Etheredge of Leeds, that Rose would not be allowed to return to the team Tuesday. Chizik had sent Rose home for the summer because of “personal reasons.”

QB Pike leaves the program
There were two notable absences as camp opened. Coach Gene Chizik said freshman quarterback Zeke Pike and cornerback Jonathan Rose have left the program and plan to transfer. Pike enrolled in January but Chizik sent him home after his arrest for public intoxication in June.

Auburn names starting QB

Auburn head coach Gene Chizik named sophomore Kiehl Frazier the school's starting QB.

The decision is not surprising since Frazier generated the most amount of positive buzz from teammates this offseason. After the announcement, Chizik said, "I am confident in his ability and leadership skills and look forward to watching him progress in both areas." The sophomore finished with only 12 passing attempts last season, two of which were interceptions, but it appears he has improved in that area. Frazier did finish with 327 rushing yards and three touchdowns in 2011.

Auburn senior WR DeAngelo Benton has been suspended indefinitely for violating an unspecified team rule.

"We have standards and expectations that our football team is expected to uphold and when they do not abide by those, there are consequences," Chizik said in the statement. Last season, Benton played in all 13 games and started two. He totaled 156 yards on seven receptions while adding a touchdown in 2011.

Auburn picks up transfer from Georgia

Nearly a year after being dismissed by Georgia following an off-field incident, Nick Marshall is apparently moving back to the conference from where he came.

In a tweet posted to his Twitter account, the defensive back wrote “I will be taking my talents bac [sic] to the SEC at the University of Auburn.” And, yes, Marshall apparently attended the Nick Saban School of Misidentifying AU as it’s technically “Auburn University.”

Regardless, it appears Marshall is headed to the Tigers, although the school has yet to confirm his addition to the football team. AuburnUndercover.com reported that Auburn should finish a review of Marshall’s transcripts by Wednesday.

If/when he does end up on The Plains, the player tweeted, he will be on the team as a quarterback. While he was recruited to UGA as a four-star athlete in 2011 and was listed as a defensive back, Marshall was at one point rated as the top QB prospect in the state of Georgia.
