this may sound like a stupid question, but i just wanna see if i got it right. when you look at a teams real depth chart, it's obviously not usually set up like you do in the game. my question is with the nickel back spot. is this a position that a SS plays or is it a CB's spot? I always thought you had your 2 CB's on each side and then a CB in the middle playing the slot WR or TE and that he was the nickel back. but i've noticed that in the game they have some nickel backs listed as SS. maybe cause the nickel plays inside and has to get more tackles and needs a little more of a safety mentality than your finesse style outside CBs, i dunno. i do wish the game's depth chart would be a little more in depth, i would like to have a 3rd down HB, a short ydg back, and CB's that only play on the outside and things like that instead of fulling with formation subs

In general, the nickel-back is the third CB on the depth-chart. Yet, there are certain formations that have the safety as the nickel-back. Example...the nickel formations 1-5-5 and nickel strong both have the safety as the nickel-back. All of the base 4-2-5 formations have the safety as the nickel-back. All base 3-3-5 formations also have the safety as the nickel-back.

The nickel formations that have the third CB on the depth-chart as the nickel-back are the following...2-4-5, nickel 3-3-5, and nickel normal.
