It appears that Mississippi State’s backfield loss will be an FCS program’s gain.

Saying “[t]hanks for all the love and support from my bulldawg family will always love and miss you,” Derrick Milton, RB, confirmed via Twitter that he’s leaving the Bulldogs football program after asking for a release from his MSU scholarship.

A football odyssey that began in Northern California and continued (briefly) in the Midwest has culminated with a landing in the Deep South.

Just a couple of days ahead of National Signing Day, Tee Shepard confirmed to Rivals.com that he has committed to continuing his FBS playing career at Mississippi State. Shepard had played at Holmes Community College in 2013.

“I told them I’m a Dawg,” Shepard told the recruiting service. “They’re all excited. The players, the coaches and everybody are just excited. It’s crazy. The coaches were telling me all week about the same two things: football and academics. That’s what I’m happy about. Everybody is just excited right now.”

Shepard opted for the Bulldogs over, among others, Ole Miss, USC and Washington.

The Irish announced back in March of 2012 that Shepard was no longer enrolled at the school, two months after he enrolled as an early signee as part of Notre Dame’s 2012 recruiting class. The stated reason for Shepard’s decision at the time was the desire to be back closer to his family in Fresno.

After leaving South Bend, Shepard considered transferring to Fresno State as well as USC.

Shepard, a four- or five-star player depending on the recruiting service, was rated as the No. 4 corner in the country in the Class of 2012 and the No. 11 player at any position in the state of California by Rivals.com.

Thanks to a glut of talent at the tight end position at Mississippi State, one member of that unit has decided to move on in an apparent search for a better opportunity at playing time.

Multiple media outlets reported earlier today that Artimas Samuel is no longer a member of the Bulldogs football team. It’s unknown why the Georgia native left the program or where he may be headed.

In 2008, Rashun Dixon was a four-star member of Mississippi State’s recruiting class, the last of Sylvester Croom‘s tenure. Dixon never suited up for the Bulldogs, however, as he was drafted in the 10th round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Oakland Athletics and embarked on a career in professional baseball.

A handful of years later, however, he’s back.

According to InsideMSUSports.com, the 23-year-old Dixon has decided to return to the Bulldogs as a walk-on player. Because he’s never played a down of college football, he maintains all four years of eligibility and could ultimately earn a scholarship.

At least in his past sporting life, the talent was certainly there.

Rivals.com rated Davis as a four-star recruit in 2008 and as the No. 19 safety in the country that year. What specific position he will play in his second football go-around is to be determined, although the website wrote that “his No. 85 suggests he will be utilized on the offensive side of the ball,” which could mean either tight end or wide receiver for a player listed at 6-2 and 210 pounds.

At 6-8 and 325 pounds, Mississippi State offensive lineman Damien Robinson is one of the first guys a coach lets off the bus to impress or intimidate opponents.

The problem for Mississippi State is that will be the only contribution Robinson can make this season.

The team announced Monday Robinson will miss the entire season after tearing an ACL.
