In 2013, A.J. Derby served as the backup to starting quarterback Brandon Allen. A year later, it appears Derby is poised to be on the receiving end of Allen’s pass attempts.

It was revealed Thursday that Derby, entering his final season of eligibility, has been moved from quarterback to tight end. The move doesn’t appear to come because of Derby’s struggles at the position

According to the Arkansas Democrat Gazette, Cameron Jefferson has decided to transfer to Arkansas and play his final season of collegiate football with the Razorbacks. As of yet, UA has not officially confirmed the lineman’s addition to the roster.

Jefferson will be eligible to play immediately for the Hogs in 2014, and the reasons for that are twofold: one, the player has already graduated from UNLV and, two, any player on the Rebels roster is permitted to transfer without sitting the requisite transfer year because of the postseason ban.

To say that Bret Bielema and his coaching staff are getting a player who could help immediately would be an understatement.

Over the past three seasons, the 6-6, 300-pound Jefferson has started the last 33 games for the Rebels. While Jefferson’s experience is certainly a plus, so is his versatility as he started games at left tackle, right tackle and left guard. As a reference for his potential future in Fayetteville, he started all 13 games at left guard in 2013.

Pruning season across the college football landscape continues this holiday, with word that Arkansas is latest to shear a player from its roster.

During a radio interview Thursday night, head coach Bret Bielema revealed that wide receiver D’Arthur Cowan is no longer a part of his football team. No specific reason for the parting of ways was given, although Cowan’s participation in spring practice was interrupted due to academics and he had also been suspended since the middle of last month.

There had been rumors of Arkansas defensive back Chris Murphy contemplating a transfer for some time, but now it appears to have become a reality. Murphy will enroll at Cincinnati and join the team during fall camp
