Sadly, this year’s spring practices will mark the official end of one player’s career. A neck injury suffered last season will force three-year starting safety Ty-Meer Brown.

Prior to the start of the 2011 season, Shakim Phillips decided to transfer out of the Boston College football program and ultimately landed at UConn. Nearly three years later, the wide receiver’s playing career may be coming full circle.

Earlier this afternoon, first-year UConn head coach Bob Diaco confirmed speculation that’s been percolating the past couple of days that Phillips has decided to leave the team.

According to the recruiting website, wide receiver Jody Fuller has decided to transfer from the Gamecocks to another institution to continue his playing career. Among the schools mentioned are East Carolina and Appalachian State.

By late June it became apparent Bryant Shirreffs was set on transferring from North Carolina State. With the calendar flipping the page to July, that’s exactly what Shirreffs is doing.

While UConn has yet to announce his addition, the quarterback confirmed to the Hartford Courant earlier in the week that he has decided to move on from the Wolfpack to the Huskies.

After sitting out the 2014 season, he will have three seasons of eligibility remaining.

True freshman Brice McCallister, who was recruited as a running back, has officially moved to corner.

On the UConn front, Bob Diaco announced that sophomore Casey Cochran had beaten out senior Chandler Whitmer for the Huskies starting job.

Connecticut quarterback Casey Cochran made a life-changing decision. Cochran has retired from playing football as a result of his own history with concussions.
