Florida picks up offensive lineman transfer from Notre Dame
After an injury-riddled five years at Notre Dame, Dan Wenger has decided to finish his collegiate career a little further south and with a pair of very familiar coaches.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, the center has decided to transfer to Florida and rejoin Charlie Weis and Frank Verducci with the Gators. Weis, UF’s new offensive coordinator, was the Irish’s head coach during Wenger’s first year in South Bend in 2006, while Verducci, UF’s offensive line coach, was Wenger’s position coach with the Irish in 2009.

I guess the Notre Dame offensive line is flocking to the SEC this offseason. Another ND OL, Alex Bullard, transfered to Tennessee.

4 star incoming recruit denied admission
Four-star defensive tackle (Rivals.com) Dante Phillips has been denied admission to UF, according to The Gainsville Sun. The decision apparently comes as a shock to Phillips, who thought he was in good academic standing with the school.

Re: Florida news
nice that they get Ronald Powell back sooner than later
Day 2 of SEC media days began this morning. First up was Florida coach Will Muschamp.
Among the more notable comments was an update on two players whose futures were a bit uncertain. Muschamp said that defensive lineman Ronald Powell has been cleared for straight ahead running and will play at some point this year, although exactly when is unknown.
Powell tore his ACL during the spring and was given a 4-6 month recovery timeline. Powell played in 12 games last season, recording 32 tackles, six sacks and a forced fumble.
Now, on the losing side: Muschamp said tight end A.C. Leonard will transfer. Leonard, as you may recall, had been facing a domestic battery charge for allegedly dragging his girlfriend by her hair out the door of his apartment. He was immediately suspended by Muschamp before being partially reinstated later. However, he was expected to face some sort of suspension this season.

Florida picks up Nebraska transfer
Back in mid-August it was reported that Tyler Moore was taking a sabbatical from the Nebraska football program and taking a semester off from the school, with head coach Bo Pelini stating that the door would be open for the player to return.
Apparently, the offensive lineman has decided to close the door Pelini had left open for him.
Speaking to GatorNation.com, Moore’s father confirmed that his son has decided to transfer from the Cornhuskers to Florida. Moore, who is currently attending a junior college in his home state of Florida, had intended to re-sign with the Huskers.

Re: Florida news
Florida loses two to transfer
The Gainesville Sun is reporting that oft-injured offensive lineman Matt Patchan has decided to take his leave of the Gators football program and transfer elsewhere. As was the case with De’Ante Saunders, who is likely to transfer to Louisville to be reunited with Charlie Strong, the school has yet to confirm Patchan’s impending departure.
The Sun writes that Patchan “will either transfer to Ohio State, where Urban Meyer is the coach, or Boston College, where Steve Addazio is the coach.” Meyer recruited Patchan to UF, while Addazio served as the lineman’s position coach.

Re: Florida news
Florida loses two to transfer
It was reported earlier today that Jacoby Brissett had decided to leave the Florida football program. As it turns out, the quarterback isn’t the only Gator heading elsewhere.
In a release confirming Brissett’s departure, UF also announced that running back Chris Johnson (No. 32) intends to transfer from the Gators as well. Johnson had also played safety during his brief time in Gainesville.
“Both Jacoby and Chris expressed an interest in transferring and getting a fresh start,” said head coach Will Muschamp in a statement. “We are very thankful for their contributions to the University of Florida and wish them the best of luck.”
Johnson played in all 26 games the past two seasons, mainly on special teams. He did have 35 yards on five carries in 2012.
As a three-star member of UF’s 2011 recruiting class, Johnson was rated as the No. 37 safety in the nation. Unlike Brissett, there’s no word on where Johnson may land.
