Arizona State picks up transfer from Auburn

AuburnSports.com reported late Wednesday night that offensive lineman Christian Westerman has decided to take his leave of the AU football program. The lineman will reportedly transfer to Arizona State.

Arizona State news - Page 2 Empty Burfict

Post by zoon Fri Jan 04, 2013 4:21 am

He always had the talent....

THE STORY (ESPN, John McTigue): Vontaze Burfict may have gone undrafted in 2012, but his performance and impact this season was nothing close to that of an undrafted rookie.
Despite not playing in Week 1, Burfict ended up logging the third-most snaps for a Cincinnati Bengals defensive player, and started every game from Weeks 3 to 17.
Burfict led the Bengals with 127 tackles this season, five more than Rey Maualuga, who was on field for 134 more plays. Burfict also led the team with 7.5 tackles for loss.
The 127 tackles were the 15th-most in the NFL this season, and ranked third amongst rookies. Only eight players had more tackles than Burfict after he earned the starting job in Week 3.
He saved his best effort for the final game of the season against the Baltimore Ravens, when he recorded 18 tackles in the 23-17 win. Only one player had more tackles in a game this season – London Fletcher with 20 against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 5.
Burfict’s undrafted status was in part due a poor combine performance, where he ran the 40-yard dash in 5.09 seconds. That time though was clearly not the best representation of his talent.
Of the players with a 40-yard dash time of 5.0 seconds or worse at the combine since 2006, Burfict is the only non-defensive lineman to have recorded a tackle this season.
Burfict’s presence on field made a notable difference for the Bengals this season. When Burfict was on field, the Bengals defense allowed 2.4 yards fewer per play compared to when he was off the field.
How big of an impact was that? There were 230 players this season who were on field for at least 500 plays and off the field for 100-or-more plays. In that sample, no player’s team took a bigger hit when going off field than the Bengals did with Burfict.

I love a good comeback story....everyone left him for dead....but he never gave up the dream. I love when someone tells someone what they can or can't do, and they just go out and ignore the negativity and Achieve their dreams....Bravo!

Wow, he came back

There have been many a surprise when it comes to the latest round of underclassmen declarations, but this one, much to the delight of the Arizona State coaching staff, may top them all.

At a press conference Tuesday evening, standout defensive tackle Will Sutton stunned many by announcing he was eschewing an early shot at the NFL draft and will instead return to the Sun Devils for his senior season. The talented lineman said that he made up his mind earlier today to return because he had goals at the collegiate level he had yet to reach.

Sutton’s decision to return is a huge boon for the Sun Devils.

Despite missing one game with an injury, Sutton was tied for third in the nation in sacks (13) and tied for second in tackles for loss. In both cases, one of the players he was tied with was South Carolina’s Jadeveon Clowney. Following the season, he was named the Pac-12′s Defensive Player of the Year and a consensus All-American, one of just four defensive lineman afforded the latter honor.

Had Sutton decided to make himself available for the draft, he would’ve been a lock for selection in the first round.

I wasn't worried that he was going to leave early. He seems to like school, and from what the grad assistants have said, many of the young guys look up to him.

Expectations are sky-high for next season, I'm talking about a 9 win year. We have Wisconsin here on Sept 14, and I've already got bags packed for Dallas for an Oct 5th meeting with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Cowgirls Stadium!!! Man, I;m already getting pumped, and we're barely 1 day gone from the end of the college football season. Twisted Evil

I'm not going to lie, this one hurt. I thought we had him locked, and ready to sign. Oh well, but if we would have signed him, this would have been huge. My hate for UCLA is at an all-time high.

Good luck Mr. Willis. For those who haven;t seen this kid, he's amazing.

Yup, the Pitt Ath. Dept. still has a grip with Coach Graham, and they are taking it out on a student athlete who doesn't want to be with the program any longer. Way to go Pitt, good luck battling Wake Forest in the ACC for a spot in the Belk Bowl.

yeah...I think you should only be blocked from transferring to the same Conference...these vendettas against former coaches and these big lists of schools these kids can't transfer to, is disgraceful.

Scottsdale Desert Mountain quarterback Kyle Allen, considered by some to be the nation's top prep quarterback, announced his five final college choices - Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and UCLA. This comes after just three of Arizona's top 15 prep recruits from the Class 2013 signed with either Arizona State or Arizona.

Arizona has great talent, but they dont want to stay around. You cant blame a kid for wanting to play at a big time school. Maybe its the heat, and kids want to go somewhere more green and with cooler weather. idk
