An injury that cost Michael Doctor most of the 2013 season will net the linebacker another season of eligibility at Oregon State.

OSU confirmed Wednesday that, as expected, Doctor has been granted a medical hardship waiver. Doctor suffered an ankle injury Sept. 7 last year and did not play again.

When it was confirmed back in mid-January that Luke Del Rio had officially completed his transfer from Alabama to Oregon State, it was thought the quarterback would be forced to sit out the 2014 season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules.

As it turns out, that’s not the case at all.

In an unexpected announcement Friday, OSU confirmed that Del Rio has been granted immediate eligibility by the NCAA and will play for the Beavers in 2014. Del Rio was a walk-on with the Tide last year and did not play a single snap; because of that, the NCAA ruled that the player’s “unique situation warranted relief from the football transfer rules that usually apply.”

Former Cal QB won’t be playing for Beavers after all

In mid-December, it was reported that Zach Kline had informed the Oregon State coaching staff that he would be transferring to the Beavers from Cal.

Four months later? Forget it. Pretend it never happened — at least for now.

Speaking to the Salt Lake Tribune, Iona Pritchard confirmed that he will be leaving BYU and finishing up his playing career at Oregon State. A graduate transfer, the fullback will be able to aid the Beavers immediately in 2014.

Cal WR to become a walk-on Beaver TE

Jacob Wark‘s career at Cal may be finished, but his time in the Pac-12 will apparently continue.

Citing a source with knowledge of the situation, Gina Mizell of The Oregonian is reporting that Wark is in the process of finalizing paperwork that would result in him becoming a member of the Oregon State football team. Mizell writes that “Wark is already listed in OSU’s online directory.”

As Wark has already graduated from the school in Berkeley, he will be eligible immediately at his new school in Corvallis. Wark won’t take up a scholarship, either, as he will be a walk-on for the Beavers.

Coming out of last season, Tight End was the position Oregon St. had the most depth and quality at. So much so that the coaching staff moved Dustin Stanton to left tackle in their search to replace Michael Philipp.

After all, that still left 5 returning players plus one of the top recruits from the Beavers' latest recruiting class.

But then Hayden Craig called it a football career, after suffering multiple concussions, and that highly touted recruit, Jake Knight, announced he wasn't coming after all, opting instead to focus on track in college.

And now, one of last year's producers, who was also counted on to again make an impact this season, is also gone, as Tyler Perry has joined Craig in taking a medical retirement.

Perry, a 6'5" senior to be made 1 start last season against USC, and had 7 catches for 58 yards, plus a 2 point conversion catch from Sean Mannion. Perry played in 16 games in his Oregon St. career.

Wide receiver Walter Jones has been granted a release from his scholarship and will transfer to another university. Jones won’t be transferring to another football program, however, as he instead intends to run track at his new school.

Beavers suspend LB Songy for all of 2014

One of the most talented young pieces of Oregon State’s defensive puzzle won’t see the field at all in 2014, head coach Mike Riley announced Tuesday.

Following up on the speculation that’s been bubbling just below the surface, Riley confirmed that Darrell Songy has been suspended for the entire 2014 season. Riley would only state “violating athletic department rules” when asked about the reason or reasons behind the hefty punishment.
