Redshirt freshman defensive back Ross Douglas to running back, junior defensive end Keith Heitzman to tight end and junior linebacker James Ross III will take over the strong-side linebacker duties

With senior linebacker Jake Ryan switching to the middle of the field, Ross is expected to take over the strong-side duties from Ryan. Senior Desmond Morgan will transition to the weak-side where Ross has played during his career at U-M.

Michigan moved junior defensive lineman Keith Heitzman over to the offensive side of the ball to tight end -- a position he played in high school -- for added depth.

USC’s loss will likely be Michigan’s gain. Running back Ty Isaac is expected to transfer to Michigan after leaving USC last month.

Isaac reportedly committed to join Michigan on a visit this week, according to Jeremy Fowler of CBSSports.com. His stats for the 2014 season remains unknown. Due to standard transfer rules, Isaac will have to sit out the 2014 season in Ann Arbor before being eligible to play again in 2015. All indications to this point have suggested Isaac will hope the NCAA approves an application for a hardship waiver, due to his desire to be playing closer to home with his mother ill. The only problem is the hardship waiver typically is for when a player transfers to a school within 100 miles from home, which is not the case for Isaac and Ann Arbor. However, there are exceptions to the rule, which is more of a guideline. The NCAA will have to make the decision.

If he does receive permission to play this season, Isaac should immediately become a contributor in Michigan’s offense. The Wolverines lose last season’s leading rusher Fitzgerald Toussaint and look to take the pressure off quarterback Devin Gardner, second on the team in rushing in 2013. This fall the Wolverines hope to get the most out of Derrick Green and De’Veon Smith, both sophomores in 2014. Adding Isaac to the mix would only add tremendous depth to the running back position for the Wolverines, giving Michigan a bit of a potential three-headed monster in the Big Ten.

One of the big questions for Michigan’s offense in 2014 might have been who will replace wide receiver Jeremy Gallon, who helped to rewrite the school record books last fall. With a little bit of a depth concern at the position, Michigan looked to all-Big Ten tight end Devin Funchess to move to a wide receiver position this spring, and he continues to see all of his practice time coming on the outside rather than the tight end position.

As has been expected for quite a bit of time, the top recruit in Michigan’s most recent class won’t step foot on the field again in 2014.

Wednesday afternoon, head coach (for now) Brady Hoke confirmed that Jabrill Peppers will not play again this season and will take a medical redshirt. Peppers has been hampered by health issues the entire 2014 season.
