Iowa dismisses RB

Tuesday, De’Andre Johnson found out just how not good, football-wise, it really is.

Iowa announced via a press release that the sophomore running back has been dismissed from the football program. No specific reason was given, although the rocket surgeon in me says it’s likely related to the off-field legal issues.

“I am disappointed that things didn’t work out better for De’Andre,” said head coach Kirk Ferentz in a statement. “We wish him all the best moving forward.”

In a move that comes on the heels of yet another running back lost, Iowa fullback Brad Rogers is currently listed atop the team's running back two-deep alongside Damon Bullock.

Rogers has only rushed the ball 14 times in his career as a Hawkeye but will likely stay where he is until Bullock or one of the incoming freshmen unseat him.

Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz announced that senior DL John Sawhill has left the football program.
Sawhill joined the program earlier this summer as a graduate student coming from Drake University. "After experiencing complications from a prior injury during preseason practice, John Sawhill has decided to forgo his remaining year of eligibility to begin work in the private sector," said Ferentz. Iowa loses another RB

Iowa's string of running back problems continued on Tuesday when the school announced that freshman tailback Barkley Hill would miss the season with a torn ACL.

Amazing all the players lost at RB
Between departures and injury, the most recent a season-ending ACL to Barkley Hill, Iowa has lost five running backs. Sophomore Damon Bullock has held the No. 1 spot since last spring and remains there going into Iowa's season opener Sept. 1 at Solider Field against Northern Illinois. After Bullock, true freshman Greg Garmon will likely be the No. 2. He led the Hawkeyes with 43 yards on 11 carries last weekend. True freshman walk-on Michael Malloy (6-0, 180) also got carries last week. Junior walk-on Andre Dawson, who rushed for nearly 5,000 yards during his career at Cedar Rapids Washington, also will see his profile rise. He ran with the third-team offense last week and gained 26 yards on six carries.
