Ohio State has confirmed that Thompson has been granted a released from his scholarship. Additionally, in a statement to Rivals.com, Thompson’s father acknowledged his son’s departure.

Jeremy Fowler of CBSSports.com tweeted Tuesday afternoon that offensive lineman Chad Lindsay has decided to transfer to Ohio State and continue his playing career with the Buckeyes. OSU, obviously, has yet to officially confirm Lindsay’s addition to the roster, although that could happen by week’s end.

In mid-March, it was announced that Lindsay would be leaving the Tide and playing his final season of college ball elsewhere. As Lindsay will be a graduate transfer, he will be eligible to play immediately in 2014.

Ohio State is fairly deep at defensive line, but one backup player will be leaving the program in search of a better situation. The Columbus Dispatch reported Monday Jamal Marcus plans to transfer away from Ohio State.

Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer gets plenty of criticism for the way players under his watch have been handled when they happen to get into some legal trouble. That narrative was silenced on Monday as Meyer dismissed defensive lineman Tracy Sprinkle, who was charged with cocaine possession after being arrested for being a part of a massive bar brawl last week.

Sprinkle may be gone from the Buckeyes roster for now, but Doug Lesmerises of Cleveland.com says a school spokesperson mentioned his position could be re-evaluated at a later time. Sprinkle pleaded not guilty on charges stemming from the brawl. In order to be able to return to the Buckeyes roster, Sprinkle may need all of the charges to be dropped or a court ruling to go in his favor on at least some of the charges.

Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer told reporters at Big Ten Media Days that Tracy Sprinkle was no longer a part of the program. Sprinkle was charged with cocaine possession after a bar brawl in Elyria, Ohio. Even though Meyer dismissed the defensive lineman, the coach left the door open for Sprinkle’s return to the team.

“You remove them from the program and readdress it at the appropriate time (if something changes),” Meyer said at the time.

The appropriate time came a week later. Sprinkle returned to practice Monday, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

The opportunity to return to the Buckeyes was based on the outcome of Sprinkles’ legal situation. Sprinkle pleaded no contest Thursday to lesser charges.

Freshman linebacker Kyle Berger tweeted Monday he tore his ACL again. It’s the second time within a year Berger suffered the same injury. The four-star recruit missed all of his final season in high school after originally tearing the ligament during a scrimmage against Canton (Ohio) McKinley.

The Buckeyes revealed Tuesday that Frank Epitropoulos has decided to give up football to focus on academics. Specifically, Epitropoulos will, the school wrote, “concentrate entirely on his biology and pre-med/pre-dental academic program.”
