Pitt picks up OL from Penn State

First reported by PantherLair.com, and subsequently confirmed by other media outlets, offensive lineman Tom Ricketts has confirmed that he will be transferring from the Nittany Lions to the Panthers. Ricketts is from the area (North Allegheny) and received a scholarship offer from Pittsburgh coming out of high school. Additionally, his father was a Panthers offensive lineman in the mid-eighties.

it looks like Pittsburgh will be short one defender this season as defensive end/linebacker Bryan Murphy has been ruled academically ineligible, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Murphy, a sophomore, will redshirt this season.

Brock DeCicco to transfer.

Pitt tight end Brock DeCicco has decided to transfer and has asked for his official release from his scholarship.
DeCicco, who is from Thomas Jefferson, left camp after Wednesday's practice and was given a few days to think about his future and has decided that he doesn't fit into Pitt's new spread offense.
The Panthers utilize an H-back in a lot of their formations but not a traditional tight end, though there are a few formations where an tight end is needed.
DeCicco, 6-5, 240, is considering a number of options but will likely end up at one of three schools, Iowa, Wisconsin or Virginia Tech, as those three schools all recruited him coming out of high school.
If DeCicco does transfer to another Division I-A school, he would have to sit out this season and then he'd have two years of eligibility remaining.

Pitt picks up transfer QB

Former Rutgers and Arizona quarterback Tom Savage has spent more time transferring among schools than he has actually playing. His third stop should be his last.

Via ESPN.com and his Twitter account, Savage has transferred to Pitt and has already enrolled in classes. Due to NCAA transfer rules, Savage will have to sit out — again — for the 2012 season. Savage already sat on the sidelines this past season when he transferred to Arizona from Rutgers.

backup QB leaves Pitt

Pitt coach Paul Chryst announced Friday that tackle Juantez Hollins has been suspended for the season for a violation of team rules, while backup quarterback Mark Myers is no longer with the team.

Pittsburgh junior T Juantez Hollins has been suspended from the football team for the 2012 season, but will remain active and practice with the Panthers.
Hollins reportedly violated unspecified team rules. He played in 13 games last year, starting six at left tackle and one at left guard. Senior Justin Virbitsky was listed behind Hollins on the depth chart.

Pitt lands transfer Wisconsin WR

After leaving his job as Wisconsin’s offensive coordinator to become the head coach at Pittsburgh, Paul Chryst brought a trio of Badger assistants along with him to fill out his first Panther coaching staff.

Now, Chryst has landed one of his former skill players as well.

UW head coach Bret Bielema confirmed Thursday that wide receiver Manasseh Garner has decided to leave his football program and will transfer to Pitt.

Pittsburgh confirmed Monday morning that a trio of players – defensive back Steve Williams, linebacker Jason Frimpong and defensive back Roderick Ryles — are no longer a part of the football program.
