Brutal game. Terrible weather. A lot of players out with injuries. Learned nothing new about the QB competition.

Who is expected to be the starting QB in the fall? any chance JoePa plays a 2 QB system since Bolden and McGloin each bring a different skill set?

Bolden has been pretty tight lipped about whether he is staying or not. I loved McGloin's moxy and leaderships skills, but he did turn the ball over a hell of a lot last season. I would love to see what Bolden can do. Paul Jones will be interesting to watch out for as well.

I hope I'm wrong but I think Bolden leaves at the end of the spring semester.

I tried my hardest to get it out of him....and he actually responded to me 3 times via twitter...I think he'd be better off staying, but we will have to see in a couple weeks.

if hes being tight lipped is sounds like he's gone ... im sure if he knew he was staying he would try and squash the rumor

Obviously, things will work themselves out but RUMOR now is Bolden stays and PJ Jones transfers. Worst case scenario is they both transfer. I hate this time of year. Just enough happens in the spring to lead to constant speculation. Well, at PSU anyway.

Nothing better than speculating about what goes on inside the mind of a Teenager. I was always taught to pay my dues, and keep working hard, and everything would work itself out. Seems like todays young athletes believe the grass is always greener on the other side. Time will tell...

Agree. People forget these are still kids. I read somewhere once that Bear Bryant would recruit and sign the top 2-3 guys at each position every year just to keep them from the competition. Would never fly now.

Penn St loses another QB

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Kevin Newsome has decided to leave the football program and will likely transfer. Penn State, which began summer camp Thursday, has not commented on Newsome’s status with the program.

Preseason attrition isn’t anything new, but Penn State will see an already thin offensive line get just a little bit thinner with the now reported loss of backup guard Alex Mateas.

According to the Philadelphia Examiner by way of Fight On State, Mateas transferred out of the program last week.

Ouch, Stephfon Green off the team

Head coach Joe Paterno, who acknowledged that Green had been suspended for disciplinary reasons, said that it’s unlikely the running back will return to the Nittany Lions in the future. As if to drive home JoePa’s point, Green is no longer listed on the Nittany Lions’ roster.

Players who need overall rating boosted:
1. Devon Still (90) - needs to be 91-93 and PSU's best player
2. Gerald Hodges (84) - needs to be 86-87
3. Nathan Stupar (84) - 85-86
4. Brandon Moseby-Felder (74) - should be around 78.. he is Moye's replacement (x Brown, y Felder, z Smith)
5. Curtis Dukes is Silas Redd's backup - should be better or equal to Stefphon Green - but should definitely be ahead of Beachum.
6. Sean Stanley - should be boosted to 83-85
7. Jordan Hill (86) - should be 88-89
8. Fera needs a boost; should be around 86
9. Adrian Amos - needs to be 4th best corner on the team around 76-78 mark; easily the best freshman we have playing this year
10. Matt McGloin - game manager - should be 83
11. Paul Jones - 5* QB out of high school - 76-77 overall would be just. He will be competing with both QBs next season when he is allowed to play

Players who need rating lowered:
1. Sam Ficken - no way he should be in the 80's - I personally would switch him to Butterworth since he got some playing time with punting duties along with Fera during the Northwestern game. Either of the two (Ficken/Butter) should be around 75-76
2. Rob Bolden - 79-80

In the middle of last month, a report surfaced that the roller coaster career of wide receiver-turned-cornerback Curtis Drake had taken another downward turn, with rumors swirling that his status as a member of the Nittany Lions was very much up in the air due to academic issues.

That officially came to fruition today as O’Brien announced that Drake is no longer with the team and will not return. O’Brien did not give a specific reason for Drake’s departure, although the player confirmed to the Philadelphia Inquirer that the dismissal was indeed related to academics.

Penn St. loses offensive lineman

The first clue that offensive lineman Khamrone Kolb was not long for the Penn State football program was his name not appearing on an early-June depth chart.

The second clue? Kolb’s high school coach confirming to 247Sports.com that his former player will indeed be transferring from the Nittany Lions. First-year head coach Bill O’Brien gave Kolb a release from his scholarship recently, and the lineman will continue his playing career at Fordham.

Penn St loses another corner

A school spokesperson confirmed to The Patriot-News that fellow cornerback Derrick Thomas has left the program for personal reasons. The move leaves the Nittany Lions painfully thin in the secondary as Thomas was expected to compete for one of the starting corner positions this fall.
