Yeah, yesterday's incident really got me thinking about the gun culture that we have in this society. It's foolish to think that making laws would temper the violence to our satisfaction, but that is the first thing you hear from gun-control advocates...."we need gun control legislation!"
The debate about "people kill people, guns don't kill people" is even more silly than the legislation hyperbole. When we can begin to frame the discussion that is different than the dichotomy just mentioned, then I think the truth about why we kill each other with guns more than any other country on Earth can begin to take place.
Guns are a part of the culture of America...its like baseball, apple pie, car, luv's rosters, and "capitalism." This country has had an obsession with violence since its inception. Since the beginning of the Republic, there has been a tension between the different parts of our society. For example, the Protestants fled England because they were persecuted by the Anglican Church. Then when they got here, they felt threatened by the Native Americans. When they killed most of them off, they felt threatened by the English Monarchy. When we shot and killed most of them, we decided to kill each other because half of us felt that black people were property, and we have the right to bear arms to protect our property, so they left the Republic and started killing to protect their life, liberty and property.
This "hyper individualism" is the backbone to what makes us American. The phrase, "to protect life, liberty, and property" has been used to justify the Revolutionary War, Manifest Destiny, WW1 and WW2, and the 9-11 attacks, to name just a few instances.
All that I have just mentioned, are basically layers upon layers upon layers of violence that has blanketed our sense of what it means to be American. So when a society has it in their social contract the right to bear arms at anytime and at all costs, that society will undoubtedly have to live with consequences of such a freedom, and yesterday was just another all-to-familiar consequence that adds to the coating of violence that America was founded upon.
The only way we can temper the gun violence is to change the culture. Laws won't do a damn thing. Laws are the easy way out when dealing with problems within a society. Most cultures of the past started having problems with their citizens when they started to passing laws arbitrarily. Now, I'm not saying passing gun laws now would be an arbitrary thing (in fact, its prudent) but laws distance society from their government, and it just adds to the tension that is already natural between human beings.
I really have no clue how to change the gun culture in America, but I know a country that we try can to emulate...Japan. My mother is from Japan, and I have visited the country numerous times, and I can honestly say, there is almost ZERO gun violence their. I think there were 2 murders with guns in Japan last year. In fact, to put our gun violence in perspective, more people in California die from guns than people die from ANYTHING in Japan! Let me say that again...more people die in Cali from a bullet than the total amount deaths in Japan in a year ( total deaths from cancer, car wrecks, heart attacks...all deaths...period). Japan has it in their constitution that you cannot own a gun or a sword (with some exceptions), so if they can do it, why can't we? Japan has had a violent past (WW2, Sino-Japan wars, the Shoguns) just like us, and they have basically rid the country of gun violence, so why can't we?
I'll tell you why we can't be like Japan and most of Europe, because Americans don't want to be like them. We want our guns. It's that simple. We look at the deaths of 20 kids as a small price to pay for our God-givin right to secure our liberty. I wish I could magically exterminate violence from country, but unfortunately, history is not on my side.

wow...that is some sick shit...seems like most of those ignorant bastards forgot 911 happened on Bush's watch...The country was behind him after 911, even democrats...He only lost the people after he took us to Iraq for bullshit reasons...I shouldn't be surprised by all the hate in this Country...it's a fucking embarrassment.

Really, dude? Just today, for example, while I was posting this topic, I heard three ladies talking about the Boston explosions that happened this week. They were all in agreement that it was a conspiracy by the White House. They think the President wanted a tragedy in order for him to "come out as the hero" (direct quote from one of the ladies). I couldn't help but laugh inside. They tried to get me involved in the conversation, but I couldn't bring myself participate.
Also, the same shit posted on Twitter on the site above is a carbon-copy of the rhetoric I hear while playing Call of Duty. Whenever I play that game, and have the mic on, I have to read an academic journal afterwards, just so I can raise my intelligence level back to where it was before playing.

Crazy Dunkin Donuts Girl
If a "face-palm" was ever more appropriate, this is the video.
During the video, the girl recording refers to the female worker as “a complete cunt sand nigger whore.”
She also says, “Well, guess what? This shit’s about to go live, bitch. Right on Facebook,” Chapman announces. “‘Cause I already posted what your dumb ass did last night. So I hope you’re happy with your little fucking sand nigger self. Cause I’m about to nuke your whole fucking planet from Mars. You think ya’ll are tough big fat Arabs bombin’ the Trade Center? I’ll show you tough.”

The Westboro Church (The God Hates Fags Church) is planning on protesting the funerals of the 19 AZ firemen that were burned to death fighting forest fires in central AZ.
Good luck Westboro....rural AZ has some "old school" ways of dealing with people that they don't like.....if you know what I mean.

My Senator at the Syria hearings today...

This isn't funny to me. The fact that he puts out a comical twitter post thingy is what really sticks in my craw. This muthafucka has been in Congress for 30 years.
Representative democracy at its finest!!!
