Post by jab07 Thu Jun 09, 2011 10:59 am

Just a head's up. Brion Carnes (15) should be the backup QB and Lavonte David should be OLB with Will Compton (51) at MLB

Nebraska has 3 incoming Freshman RB's that should probably be better than Okafor and Jones, the others are Braylon Heard and Ameer Abdullah. Also a stud Freshman C coming in named Ryne Reeves.

Ryne Reeves is a Guard. Mark Pelini is closer to a Center than Guard.

Also, RB Ty Kildow is a former WR who will be a scat back, hide behind the line little squirt with solid agility/speed that should see plenty of playing time as the Freshman earn their keep before seeing the field.

DE Eric Martin is expected to be a Pass Rush Specialist, he will back up Josh Williams and potentially challenge to start.

If you need ANY Husker support let me know sir, be glad to offer as much (un)biased info as I can muster. (Jamal Turner's 99 speed right? haha) I might be able to chip in some help on Illinois as well.

Love the solid job you do.

Nebraska Projected Depth Chart Empty Re: Nebraska Projected Depth Chart

Post by the_EDJ Sun Jul 03, 2011 1:12 pm

I agree with almost your entire Depth Chart aklep. A few things though, listed below the positions.

#22 Rex Burkhead JR (#1)
#00 Aaron Green FR (#3)
#28 Austin Jones RSR (#4)
#00 Braylon Heard FR (#5)
#00 Ameer Abdullah FR (#6)
----> Ty Kildow (#2) is explosive fast in the backfield and Tim Beck really wants to get him on the field as much as possible. (Hide him in the pistol, oh my) I expect him to be #2 or #3 on the depth chart until the freshman freaks earn their playing time (Aaron Green being the favorite to see the field first).

WR
#84 Brandon Kinnie RSR (#1)
#10 Jamal Turner FR (#4)
#83 Stanley Jean-Baptiste RSO (#2)
#80 Kenny Bell RFR (#5)
#06 Tim Marlowe RJR (#7)
#18 Quincy Enunwa SO (#3)
#01 Khiry Cooper RJR (#6)
-------> Tim Marlowe is a Special Teamer at best. Top 3 WR's will be BK, SJB, and QE. Turner will definitely play, he's too good not to, but he won't be #2 as a true freshman. Plus SJB will be willing to block while Turner learns. KC Hyland will get a LOT of looks to supplant Bell, Cooper, and Marlowe in the top 5 WRs due to his sheer size.

CB
#15 Alfonzo Dennard SR (#1)
#17 Ciante Evans SO (#2)
#11 Andrew Green RSO (#5/6)
#00 Charles Jackson FR (#5/6/7)
#05 Josh Mitchell RFR (#5/6/7)
#10 Dijon Washington RSO (#3/4)
#02 Antonio Bell JR (#3/4)
------>The secondary is tough. Dennard and Evans are easy #1 and 2. Antonio Bell and Dijon Washington should fight for #3/4 easy though. Charles Jackson will be really good, but he needs to develop first and learn the Pelini system. Josh Mitchell shows more promise than Andrew Green as well, those two should be vying for the #5 slot with Jackson, if Jackson doesn't redshirt because of the log jam of defenders. Safety is a mess as well outside of the 2 starters.

When Pelini brings in a JuCo, they're meant to play almost immediately. So I fully expect to see WR Jean-Baptiste starting, and Daimion Stafford backup safety, if not starting and moving Osborne to "Peso." Word is Stafford is really good. You stated the roster had 69 guys, Kildow could be #70 Although I'd rather see Bubba Starling come to Nebraska. Smile

WR #83 is Bubba Starling. Move to QB. Give passing attributes. He hasn't signed yet. I would leave him in.

ROLB #4 Lavonte David needs a boost in acceleration (mid to upper 80s). Guy can move. Currently at 65 acceleration- too low.

What makes you think Bubba Starling was listed as a WR? That's besides the point.
I do agree about LD though, many B1G pundits list LaVonte David as the #1 LB in the conference. He's a beast (they're just feeding my bias Wink ).

Depending on roster limits and how other positions shake out the RB position is the most intriguing on the offense. You will need 5 or 6 RBs and 2 FBs on the team.

RB Rex -- easy
RB Ty Kildow - 5'7" mid-high 90's speed/acceleration type with little strength/trucking
RB Aaron Green - Size and speed, low 90's speed/acceleration with balanced trucking vs elusiveness, similar to Burkhead, more potential though
RB Braylon Heard - Speed back, low-mid 90's speed
RB Ameer Abdullah - Speed back, low-mid 90's speed
RB Austin Jones (Sr)/Collins Okafor (Jr) Big balanced backs. Not fast, not powerful.
RB Curenski Gilleylen - Former speed WR with size. Too much depth for a video game roster I suppose.

FB Tyler Legate - easy #1
FB/RB Mike Marrow - incoming transfer, Peyton Hillis type balanced bruiser
FB C.J. Zimmerman - too much depth to be used and easily supplanted by Marrow.

TE Kyler Reed - easy #1/2
TE Ben Cotton - easy #1/2
Toss-up TE Lester Ward - transitioning from RB to see the field. Not a willing blocker. Was a bruising RB with soft hands, but lack of top end speed.
Toss-up TE Jake Long - played in 3 games
Toss-up TE J.T. Kerr - no experience
Toss-up TE Robert Bary - no experience, coaches want to play him for his 6'8" frame.
**All 4 toss-up TE are about the same skill wise, it's just a coin flip on who gets the nod and wins the 3rd place spot showing the most potential. If I had a guess, it'd look like Long, Barry, Ward, Kerr in that order. Experience, followed by potential, followed by zero experience and little relative potential.

His height, weight, and skin tone all matchup identical. Plus once you can check his home state (Kansas) it's obviously meant to be him.

Depth chart looks pretty good.

I'd add...I've spent some time in Lincoln recently and theres still alot of buzz about Kenny Bell. Also..I haven't seen anything about Tim Marlowe dropping much in the depth chart either.

Im guessing WR will look something like this:
WR
#84 Brandon Kinnie RSR (#1)
#83 Stanley Jean-Baptiste RSO (#3)
#80 Kenny Bell RFR (#4)
#10 Jamal Turner FR (#5)
#06 Tim Marlowe RJR (#2)
#18 Quincy Enunwa SO (#6)

But I also expect we will be running a spread offense using a slot (Bell or Turner) and TE Kyler Reed along with 2 WR once we get the offense fully installed.

BTW...Im sure its out there somewhere but what base offense are the Huskers using in NCAA 12?
#01 Khiry Cooper RJR (#6)

Sure his acc is low but nobody talks about his awareness only being 65 also. I dont think you break the school record in tackles without being aware of whats going on.

Also Dennard should be a top 5 cornerback in this game.

Also there is 0 reason to keep Bubba Starling in this game.

no but keep dreaming. Add him to your roster and then when he leaves, get all sad cause you will have to remove him. He won't play here. Besides Pelini loves him some tmagic, which is a shame. Tmagic's injury should be 50 in this game, not 88. He also should have 10 throwing power and 5 accuracy cause hes worthless.

I'm not a Nebraska fan so no sweat off my back. I'm just saying it's easier to remove a guy that's already in the game than to have to recreate him if he doesn't sign.

At this stage you can't really say there's no chance. Starling has been in Lincoln practicing with the team and enrolled in Summer courses which would make sticking to football very easy. Not saying it's just as easy to drop it, but he has until August 15th to make a decision either way.

If he's grasping the offense, he'll play. He won't start until Martinez gets hurt, but he will find his way on the field.

I doubt he's going to make your 70 man roster, but freshman Daniel Davie was moved from WR to CB this week. Both positions are stacked and he probably won't contribute until his Junior/Senior year outside of special teams.

A.) It's Bubba Starling day, t-minus 6 hours 52 minutes before his decision is due to MLB's offices.

B.) Ty Kildow, the tiny RB I was lobbying for on the roster has left the team for "personal reasons." Didn't hear anything beyond that.

This may be too late, but I'm a Husker nut, this is the roster I'll use. I've edited the #'s to be as accurate as possible with no duplicates. My ratings may be high in respect to other teams, so I wouldn't expect them to be duplicated, but my ratings should give an accurate depth chart when rated from highest to lowest at each postion. Thanks for you work luv, your rosters are the best.

I've heard the same things from camp except for a couple difference.
TE: the 6'8" Sophomore Robert Barry TE is making a major push to get some playing time behind Reed/Cotton. Link: Check the sidebar

WLB: David Santos is pushing to be Lavonte David's backup at OLB.
SLB: It's a very close race between Fischer and Stoddard at the other OLB spot as well.

SS: It's very close between Osborne and Stafford. Osborne has the experience and reckless abandon Bo promotes. Stafford is an athletic player with major ball skills. Whoever doesn't start will likely jump right into the "Peso" role when we face spread teams like Northwestern and be on the field anyway.

This hasn't been discussed, but how would any of you rate the team's KR/PR? Granted speed is (almost) always the determining factor for players, I'd go so far as breaking down the returners as:
99 WR Brandon Kinnie
93 WR Jamal Turner
90 CB Alphonso Dennard
89 S Damion Stafford
85 RB Ameer Abdullah
85 WR Tim Marlowe
83 CB Antonio Bell
80 RB Aaron Green
80 RB Braylon Heard
80 WR Kenny Bell

I think realistaclly because of pure depth and expectations, Turner and Marlowe will return kickoffs, and Kinnie will handle Punt Returns because of his consistency and maturity to hold onto the ball like Rex Burkhead did last year. I figure if the coaches are looking for a big break then Turner will sneak in there to make a play as well. I'm guessing because of the importance of Dennard being on an island he won't flash his skills that much, and Stafford will be stuck as a backup focusing on his new defensive roles as well.

Nebraska Projected Depth Chart Empty Re: Nebraska Projected Depth Chart

Sounds like all the freshman backs are getting looks at KR/PR, esp Green and Abdullah. Turner sounds like he is the top PR at this time, with Marlow next. IDK if Kinnie will even be a starting KR, so there's no way he's a 99; maybe 93-95, but not a 99. I don't think there is a 99 on the team. If there is, Turner is the closest.

Sounds like the OL rotation could be a lot different than previously thought, esp. with the guys hurt (IE: Jones, Sirles, and Qvale)

The top unit now appears to be:

LT - Hardrick
LG - Thompson
C - Caputo
RG - #61 Spencer Long RS-SO
RT - Moore

Back ups are not set in any remote order, with guys playing multiple positions. Rodriguez, and Cotton at guard; Sirles, Qvale, Jones, and Cotton at Tackle; Pelini and Reeves at C....

It's knid of a mess. IDK if Jones will play much at all with his back. If anything, Long needs to be added to the roster (I suppose for Moudy) and starting, along with Thompson starting at LG. The rest can stay the same, cause there is no set rotation.
