Re: Arizona State 2013 News
Went to my first practice this morning....3 things that stood out
1) Salamo Fiso is better than Steffon Martin at middle linebacker...the guy is explosive, and probably will be the starter
2) DJ Foster is the best WR we have, which is not good. Expect to see Foster in the slot a bunch, with Grice and DLewis in the backfield, Coyle in the H-back
3) Lloyd Carrington is the real deal..dude has great quickness coming out of breaks. I think he'll be the second corner, beating out Nelson and Wadood.

Marcus Ball, who had become a starting safety less than two weeks into practice, will miss three to five weeks with a shoulder injury. Todd Graham announced that backup corner Robert Nelson is being moved to safety, a position low in numbers.

Todd Graham signs an extension until 2018.
http://www.azcentral.com/sports/asu/articles/20130918asu-football-coach-todd-graham-contract-extension-through-2018.html
Im not very happy with this move by the AD. I think they should have waited until the end of the season. But I know why they did it now. First, because of recruiting. Secondly, there has been some credible rumors coming out of Austin, saying that Todd Graham was going to replace Mack Brown at Texas.

ASU MISSING DEFENDERS: the Sun Devils will be without starting defensive tackle Jaxon Hood (knee) for this week's game against Southern California. Also, Todd Graham announced today that defensive linemen Junior Onyeali and Chans Cox will miss the remainder of the season because of injuries. Cox had not played and was expected to redshirt this season.

These are terrible though. Â They remind me of the futuristic uniforms that MLB tried to do a few years back. Â

I noticed that Carl Bradford was not in the game tin the 4th quarter. Â After the game, the team usually goes to midfield, and celebrates by throwing the pitchfork down, and yelling the alma mater. Bradford is usually the ring leader of this event. Â I noticed that Bradford walked straight to the locker room with a towel over his head, not even participating in the festivities. Â Interesting.

Marion Grice is day-to-day, said Todd Graham during his weekly Monday press conference. Graham was not asked to address a rumor that Grice broke a tibia during the final minutes of Saturday's win at UCLA.

Re: Arizona State 2013 News
Todd Graham, not surprisingly, was named Pac 12 Coach of the Year while Will Sutton, perhaps surprisingly, is the repeat winner as the Defensive Player of the Year ... first team selections from ASU were Chris Coyle, Evan Finkenberg, Alden Darby, Robert Nelson, Zane Gonzalez and Sutton
Fellas, Will Sutton Def POY? Am I missing something?

Re: Arizona State 2013 News
I got the Sundevils in the Pac-12 Championship...Sutton deserves defensive player of the year
Re: Arizona State 2013 News
He anchored a Sun Devil defense that was third in the Conference in total defense (351.0 yards per game), was tied for second in sacks (36 total sacks) and led the Conference in forced turnovers (30). Sutton lead an aggressive defense that has forced one turnover in 26-consecutive games, which is good for third in the country among FBS schools for longest-active streak. On the year, Sutton recorded 10.5 tackles for loss for 38 yards, three sacks and an interception that sealed a win over UCLA to clinch the Pac-12 South Division title and earn the Sun Devil’s first Pac-12 Football Championship game berth.
Look at the rest of the first team defense:
First Team Defense
DL Ben Gardner, Sr., ---- no
DL Trevor Reilly, Sr., Utah ---- no
DL Will Sutton, Sr., Arizona State (2) --- yes
DL Leonard Williams, So., USC --- no
LB Anthony Barr, Sr., UCLA (2) --- 2nd best choice
LB Trent Murphy, Sr., Stanford (2) --- no
LB Shayne Skov, Sr., Stanford --- no
DB Deone Bucannon, Sr., Washington State -- no
DB Alden Darby, Sr., Arizona State --- no
DB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, Jr., Oregon (2) --- had a bad year
DB Robert Nelson, Sr., Arizona State --- no
DB Ed Reynolds, Sr., Stanford (2) --- no

Re: Arizona State 2013 News
Sutton was a fat ass the first three games of the year. He couldn't get off of blocks. During Pac 12 play, he was a force, but I think Trent Murphy has been great every game, so he deserves to be the player of the year.
Also, I think Robert Nelson on the first team is a joke. Osahon Irabor is one of the best CB's in the NCAA. I guarantee that Irabor will be on the AA list. Nelson has the numbers because team don't throw to Irabor's side.

I couldn't give it to Murphy. He disappeared against Oregon and USC. Sutton dominated PAC 12 play and didn't have much competition. I just think it is interesting how Jack won freshman offensive and defensive player of the year

Re: Arizona State 2013 News
My Devils were beaten every way possible. 'Furd dominated offensively, defensively, special teams and coaching ... ASU's offensive consisted of two long D.J. Foster touchdowns while Todd Graham's defense was put in bad one-on-one matchups time and time again ... Kevin Hogan, thought to be the inferior quarterback in the matchup, completed 12 passes for 277 yards (23 yards per completion), often finding wide receivers in man coverage against ASU safeties and linebackers ... The ASU defense needed to stop Tyler Gaffney and Ty Montgomery. Instead, that pair accounted for all five Stanford touchdowns ... Taylor Kelly was a beast in defeat, taking a beating after ASU fell behind and Foster suffered a leg injury on the first play of the second half ... The Pac 12 South remains far inferior to the Pac 12 North. One obvious example is ASU being outscored the last two seasons against Stanford and Oregon 123-63 and having zero chance in any of the three losses

I think people also didn't take into account how much Grice means to ASU.

QB Michael Eubank has been granted his release from the program. They are going to help him find another team. Good luck to him, he is a good guy, but there is just not enough room for him on the depth chart.

Re: Arizona State 2013 News
Reason #4,859 on why I hate the NFL....
NFL Scout Donald Jeremiah said this about Will Sutton.
"There are serious questions about his character, fitness and athletic ability. He was out of shape this fall and wasn't nearly the same player that he was the year before."
I can understand the questioning of his athletic ability and fitness, but his character? I've seen Sutton on the practice field, on campus, and in the community since he was a freshman. He has been nothing but a great ambassador for ASU. I can't believe this chump of a scout would say something negative about his character. Now Sutton has a stigma that he will be with him, like a scarlet letter, just because of one ass-hole's naive comment
