Backup linebacker is dismissed

Mere hours after word first surfaced that West Virginia’s Branko Busick had been arrested in connection to an armed robbery in Morgantown Monday evening, the linebacker has been dismissed from the football program. The school announced the decision via a very brief press release.

Injury puts starter out for year

When Josh Jenkins went down with a knee injury during West Virginia’s spring game in late April, it was thought the offensive lineman could be out for as little as six-to-eight weeks.

Unfortunately for the Mountaineers, that early prognosis was significantly off the mark.

In a press release, the school announced that Jenkins will miss the entire 2011 season due to the injury and subsequent surgery.

Reserve QB and true freshman Brian Athey has decided to leave the program and will enroll at Illinois State, WVU play-by-play announcer Tony Caridi and WVMetroNews.com confirmed today.

According to WVMetroNews.com, redshirt sophomore Daquan Hargrett has decided to transfer from the program after seeing practically no playing time over the past two seasons.

West Virginia picks up player from Miami

After requesting his release from Miami's scholarship last Friday, freshman CB Vernon Davis has decided to transfer to West Virginia.

Davis explained his request by saying he felt "like he couldn’t trust (Miami's) coaches anymore," and despite their attempts to talk him out of, the true freshman's career with the Hurricanes was short lived. His high school coach, Chevas Clements, said that Davis was disturbed by seeing his name slide down the depth chart while Miami officials continued to recruit players at his position. Despite believing he has a better chance to earn playing time with the Mountaineers, Davis will have to sit out the 2012 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

Two WRs leave team

Not even a week after West Virginia wide receiver Travares Copeland left the program citing “personal reasons“, the school has announced another departure that further thins the group’s receiving unit.

Dana Holgorsen said Monday that Ivan McCartney has also departed the program for “personal reasons” and would not elaborate further. McCartney, a four-star receiver from WVU’s 2010 signing class, did not travel with the team to Oklahoma State this past weekend.
